Itinerary

This is a standard itinerary given only as a guide. The guide also reserves the right to alter the itinerary to suit weather conditions and the ability of the group on the day.

The Ride the Alps mountain bike tour of the mighty Monte Rosa is a true adventure. 6 days of spectacular biking featuring a glacier crossing, a profusion of 4000m peaks, high altitude huts, bike park fun, technical singletrack, some big climbs, breath-taking views and a smattering of tough hike-a-bike sections!

The Tour of Monte Rosa starts and finishes in a pretty Alpine village in the Swiss Valais. The first day of riding is designed as a warm-up to enable us to deal with any bike issues before heading out into the wilderness and to enable you to explore some of the best trails in the Zermatt valley.

The next day, after a ride up to Zermatt we use the lifts and a glacier crossing or a helicopter ride to get over to the Italian side of the mountain to Cervinia, making the most of the trails in the bike park there.

Day three showcases some great technical trails, leading us past breathtakingly beautiful lakes and stunning scenery to our first Italian refuge. We have a very warm welcome at this stunning spot.

The next day we cross 2 high passes including some sustained technical riding but we take advantage of the lifts where possible and enjoy exploring! After arriving into the historic town of Alagna we have a valley bottom climb to our second beautifully located Italian refuge where we overnight. This is a great location with excellent food.

Day 5 features our biggest climb. We follow an ancient traders’ route up to a col, followed by a massive technical descent to the picturesque Italian town of Macugnaga.

The next morning begins with a cable car ride and then a short carry before another huge descent back into Switzerland. For this final day there are some tough pushing/hiking sections, some exposed trails and of course some spectacular singletrack.
