Day by day the snow is creeping down the mountains here in the French Alps. It’s down to about 1200m now and increasing in depth. Everyone is getting excited and breaking out the touring skis. We’re thinking about the winter mountain biking season ahead.
Jamie has taken the fat bikes out of the cellar and he’s fettling them up ready to test ride. The snow just needs to get down a little bit lower and then we can get out for our first fat bike ride of the season. The beauty of fat biking is that you don’t need to wait for the lifts to open. You can get out as soon as the conditions are right. This can be as early as November and we can run trips from this month onward.
As with all of our trips we can tailor your winter mountain biking holiday to suit your needs and ability. Our fleet of fat bikes rely on good old pedal power but if you feel that you need an electric fat bike we can rent these for you (at an extra cost). Snow conditions can vary from day to day and even change by the hour so we often have to make adjustments to the itinerary for each trip. We have a range of riding options and we will choose the best route on the morning of the ride. Have a look at a sample itinerary to get an idea of the riding.
Our winter mountain biking holidays are based in Morillon or Samoens. These are traditional French Savoyard villages in the Haut-Giffre valley. Morillon and Samoens have managed to retain their rural charm and integrity with year-round communities when other villages in the region have become almost exclusively resort towns. The trails are quieter here than in neighbouring villages but the scenery and the mountains are just as beautiful.
For small groups of up to 4 people our Morillon holiday apartment is available from now up to the 20th December, 8th-12th January, 15th-31st January and 16th March up to the end of the season. For a group of 3 the price is 385 euro p.p for 2 days fully guided fat biking, 3 nights self-catering accommodation, bike hire and van support for uplifts and logistics as necessary. A continental breakfast can be added for 21 euro p.p per stay including fresh bread and croissants delivered each morning. The apartment is next door to our house so it’s very convenient for the riding and any questions you might have about the trip.
For those of you who prefer hotel-style accommodation this season we will be teaming-up again with the fantastic team at La Reposette in Vercland, Samoens. I will check availability on demand. For a group of 4 the price is 448 euro p.p for 2 days fully guided fat biking, 3 nights bed and breakfast accommodation, bike hire and van support for uplifts and logistics as necessary. La Reposette is one of our favourite places to go for apres ski/bike/board/snowshoe. There’s a lovely warm, friendly atmosphere and the food is very tasty and good value.
