Time for New Year fat bike ride!

Why not kick-start 2019 with a fat bike ride in the Alps?

Our winter biking season has got off to a great start. The snow arrived in perfect time the weekend before Christmas so Jamie and I seized the opportunity for a festive fat bike ride. We took a trip over to the Swiss Valais to try out the fat bike trails in Goms. The trails were in great condition so we ended-up doing the longest ride we’ve ever done on the fatties – 36km. It might not sound like much compared to the distances you regularly cover on trail bikes but in winter conditions with slightly soft snow and those massive tyres, it was definitely a good workout! We were both pretty tired at the end but thoroughly enjoyed it and even managed to fit in a classic Swiss Rosti for lunch and an afternoon coffee stop – the perfect day out! It’s a great area: friendly people, quiet pisted trails, stunning views and very open to fat biking. There are also some great thermal baths close by, so you can relax your tired muscles in the thermal waters after your ride.

Jamie took our first guest of the season out for a fat bike ride on Boxing Day. They braved some icy conditions on the way up to the Refuge de Bostan but fortunately the huge tyres provided plenty of traction and they made it to the Refuge for a very welcome coffee and rest. Alfie the dog came too and he had an absolute blast! The 700m of descent is always fun and makes the ascent worth all the effort.

Conditions right now are slightly lean for skiing but perfect for fat biking. The off-piste is so firm that you can ride over anything! If you’re looking to kick-start 2019 come out for a weekend of fat biking. Try something new at the start of the New Year! Jamie is available throughout January and we have availability in our holiday apartment from the 12th-19th January and the 26th January-2nd February. We will give a 50% discount on the accommodation in our apartment if you book a weekend of riding with us. Email Mary for further details.

Happy New Year everyone! May 2019 be filled with many two-wheeled adventures!
