Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about the Canadian Wilderness mountain bike trip.

How hard is it really going to be?

There are fantastic trails suitable for all abilities in the Whistler valley and from Tyax resort and with expert guiding and good guide-client ratio you can make the trip as hard core or as easy as you want. The fitter you are and the better your biking ability, the more trails you will have at your disposal. However you should be a regular mountain biker and have a good level of fitness as there are some strenuous climbs, although no great altitude is reached, there are many technical sections on most days. There is always the option to walk around these if you want. The level of skill needed to make the most of this holiday is definitely a step up from that required in the Alps. Please call our office or email us to ask about suitability. Accommodation in very comfortable chalets.

How do I get there?

Price is land only joining the tour in Vancouver BC, a timed transfer to Whistler is included from Vancouver Airport. This will depend on group flight times and numbers. BA direct daily international flights from the UK from approximately £908.00 return (depart LHR). Other airlines can be used if you prefer. In fact Canadian Affair often have the cheapest deals. Just be in Vancouver on the first day and we'll pick you up.

What you need to bring?

Your bike! In excellent working order, a full service is recommended before you come, though there are many excellent bike shops in Whistler. Your bike needs to have a recommended minimum of 100mm of front fork travel if you only have a hard tail. Preferably, you will have a much better time if you have a dual suspension bike like; Orange Five or Patriot 6.6, Santa Cruz Super-Light or Heckler, Specialized Enduro, GT iDrive and Marin Mt Vision, are all good examples of bikes that would suit the style of riding on this trip. Heavier duty down hill / fee ride style bikes would be perfect for use in the bike park , but would suffer greatly without more gears and less weight for the more cross country riding routes this trip generally uses. You may want to invest in (or rent) a full face helmet for the bike park - depending on how hard you intend to ride. Clothes washing facilities are available at Tyax and in Whistler. You will need clothing for a variety of conditions and continuous riding every day (see full kit list below for guidance). Most importantly bring plenty of bottle for the bike park!
