Mini Tour du MtBlanc - a close shave !

Fine weather started and finished this mini TMB, but a damp day in the middle had us running down a 3,000 ft descent in rain and luminated at times by odd flash of lighting !
The first day all went well, parting with a few Euros to stimulate the Chamonix bike eccoemy, for those turning up with 5yr old rear mechs, and bash-rings for those that wanted to keep there big rings with same number of teeth. Easy option with the lifts, meant more time for single-track descents, skill sessions on steep descending, switch-backs and even time at the skate park working on step-ups and hops — all skills learnt today where all used to great effect in the next 2 days!
It was a case of the wrong trousers for Simon on day 2 as his 3/4 soaked up twice their weight in water! We were eventually allowed into the refugee that night after washing off the hillside in the stream.
However it was on day 3 that the closest shave was for Bob and the marmot. On the fastest descent of the trip at over 30mph on lose rock, Bob got between a startled young marmot and the safety of his burrow.
The marmot thought he was quick enough to get across the track to his hole but Bob on his Slayer were too quick and the Marmot ran between his wheels! Amazingly even though being run over by the Vegetarin biker and with a Maxxis high roller tattoted across his back he still made it to his burrow alive in one peice ;-) and will probally not underestimate the speed of an adrealin fuelled MTBiker again !
The final climb took us to a most wonderful view point and a fantastic descent, filled with evey kind of stlye of singel-track, with fast flowy sections, steep tech, snow covered even, and of course woody rooty, rocky, switch back tastic, descent into the trees to test and use all those new switch-back skills to the max! Just brillaint…..
